At the request of the Belgian Federal government, the OECD-NEA International Review Team (IRT) is reviewing the safety case of the ONDRAF/NIRAS' surface disposal facility for low and intermediate level waste at Dessel. The first questionnaire, with questions related to the fundamental principles and good practices for developing safety cases, was submitted to ONDRAF/NIRAS in December 2011. Answers to the first set of questions have been received in January 2012. The second set of questions reflects the viewpoints of the IRT members after their extensive review of a series of ONDRAF/NIRAS documentation.
