The Radiological Impact of the Chernobyl Accident in OECD Countries

ISBN : 92-64-13043-B

European countries of the OECD have been affected by the widespread dissemination of the radioactive material released from the Chernobyl reactor accident in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, in April 1986. The report provides an assessment of radiation doses received by the population of these countries and a critical analysis of the countermeasures applied. One of the main lessons learnt is the need for improved preparedness to cope effectively with a nuclear emergency having transnational consequences.
