The NEA Working Group on External Events (WGEV) met on 14-18 September 2020 via video conference. During the meeting, the working group members made progress on the draft benchmark report on external events hazard frequency and magnitude statistical modelling.
They also discussed the draft report on the protection of nuclear installations against high winds and tornadoes and the identification of key issues regarding high wind and tornado hazard assessment. This report will also be the basis of a workshop which will be organised in October 2021 in Daejeon, Korea.
After discussions of the report on high winds and tornadoes and the Daejeon workshop, the working group members developed a new work proposal on addressing uncertainties. Another highlight of the meeting was the topical discussion on the assessment of local intense precipitation practices.
