The NEA Working Group on Regulation of New Reactors (WGRNR) met on 21-22 October 2020 via video conference.
The WGRNR examines the regulatory issues of the siting, licensing and regulatory oversight for all new commercial nuclear power reactors. The group focuses specifically on the inspection of nuclear power plants under construction.
During the October meeting, the working group finalised the Third Construction Experience Synthesis Report, which follows up on the first and second reports in the series with a summary of construction events reported to the WGRNR since 2015. The group members also made progress on two other reports: i) Regulation of Corporate Governance for Nuclear Safety, and ii) Regulatory Approaches to Licensee’s Oversight of Construction Activities.
The working group members exchanged further updates and insights on new regulatory issues related to the siting, licensing and oversight of new commercial nuclear power reactors. Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the inspection and construction of new reactors was also discussed at the meeting.
