Discussing holistic process for decision making on decommissioning and management of complex sites

HDCS

The Expert Group on Holistic Process for Decision Making on Decommissioning and Management of Complex Sites (HDCS) met in Paris.

The NEA Expert Group on a Holistic Process for Decision Making on Decommissioning and Management of Complex Sites (HDCS) held its fifth Plenary meeting on 10-12 June in Paris to review the holistic process for complex site decommissioning. The group also made significant progress towards the publication of the upcoming technical report, which will describe the holistic process for decision making on decommissioning and management of complex sites, present the case studies collected, and integrate the external feedback received during dissemination events.

Established in 2020, the group holds annual plenary meetings to exchange information on recent developments in the member countries, to discuss topical issues, and to plan and execute its programme of work.

The main objectives of the HDCS are to:

  • Provide advice on the preparation of a reliable, effective, and efficient process that identifies, assesses, controls, and manages risk(s) associated with decommissioning and legacy management of complex sites;
  • Develop guidelines and identify key decisions required to implement such a process;
  • Collect and integrate external feedback received on the process.
